Strange home cures that really work
No need to run out to the pharmacy every time something goes wrong. Prevention.com lists 19 bizarre home cures that actually work. Here are some of my favorites:
- Vodka for foot odor: Stinky feet? Wipe them down with a vodka-soaked washcloth. (Rubbing alcohol works, too, but is much less fun.)
- A pencil for headaches: When you’re stressed or anxious, put a pencil between your teeth, but don’t bite down. It automatically relaxes your jaw, which can head off a headache.
- Sugar for hiccups: Apparently it does more than just make the medicine go down. Swallowing a teaspoon of sugar dry can stop hiccups in minutes.
- Olives or lemons for motion sickness: At the first sign of nausea, down a couple of olives or suck on a lemon. They help dry up the excess saliva in your mouth that contributes to queasiness.
- Ice cream for pizza burn: OK, this isn’t all that revolutionary, but I like it because it includes two of my favorite things. If the worst has happened and you don’t have ice cream around, you can also use an ice cube.
- Cloves for cuts: Sprinkle powdered cloves on a cut to stop the pain and prevent infection.
- Duct tape for warts: I know, it’s kinda gross, but apparently it really does work and is better than freezing them off. Just cover the wart, file down the dead skin every 3 days or so, and reapply. Chemicals in the tape do the trick.

Just what it says. Visit the Selleck Waterfall Sandwich website for more, including animated sandwiches and a random high-speed car. Be sure you scroll down far enough to hear the theme song…and be warned, it will stick in your head.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I love pig. My favorite is pulled pork barbecue with hot vinegar sauce, of course, but I also love BACON!
I’m also not ashamed to admit that I’m not a big fan of the reality shows where they paint Southerners as a bunch of lazy, mean, junk-food eatin’, bacon-lovin’…wait a minute, forget that last part. However, I might make an exception for the kid in “Wife Swap,” the reality show in which two families (one a Southern junk-food-eatin’ family, the other a family of health food nuts) swap wives. The video of the kid (“King Curtis”) freaking out when the new wife throws out his Cheez Whiz has been an Internet sensation. And sensations, of course, inevitably result in mash-ups and remixes.
So without further ado–and definitely without condoning badly-behaving children– “Bacon Is Good For Me: The Remix”. (DISCLAIMER: Variety is the spice of the Day Improver, and no attempt is made to decide for you what would improve your day. Judging from the submissions we regularly get, people like all sorts of things. I’m just sayin’…sorry for this one, vegetarian friends…you may want to send yourself out of the room. )

Do you like gummy bears? Do you really, really, REALLY like gummy bears? How about the equivalent of 1,400 gummy bears?
Enter the 9.5 inch, 5-pound World’s Largest Gummy Bear, in your choice of blue raspberry, green apple (my favorite!), or red cherry. C’mon, it’s only 12,600 calories, and according to the website,
Its monstrous size is only matched by its enormous taste. The World’s Largest Gummy Bear tastes just as delicious as its pint-sized counterpart.
Seriously. It’s the greatest flippin’ gift ever.
Can’t handle that much gummy bear? Try the Giant Gummy Bear on a Stick (only 1/2 pound).

Courtesy of our friend Andrew Westin, AKA The Food Monster:
These guys are all about creativity when it comes to the Ghetto Big Mac. Remember, the McDonalds employees are there to serve you, so small requests should be granted. I have found this to be true across the board.
Ghetto Big Mac
Ingredients
Double cheese burger, small fries (value menu)
Ask for Seeded Bun, Big Mac Sauce, and large cut sliver onions.Enjoy!

Trick question. We all know there’s no such thing as “leftover chocolate”.
In fact, you need MORE chocolate. One of my personal favorites (along with Lindt, thank you, Paul) is MarieBelle on Broome Street in New York City–their Aztec hot chocolate is to-die-for. What’s your favorite?
Happy Day-After-Valentine’s-Day!
